The confidence I gained by attending the Short Course

Vicky Shilling on the difference the Short Course made to her

The Clore Leadership Short Course was an invaluable two weeks which gave me the time, which you might otherwise never get in a busy working life in the Arts, to really focus on me and my strengths. It gave me confidence in the type of leader I am and what I can offer the industry. I came away tooled up with knowledge and awareness of how different people work, what motivates them and how to get the best out of people which has infinitely improved my skills as I move through the profession.

Aside from all the hugely useful practical advice on things such as public speaking, governance and finance one of the most significant things I absorbed was a renewed approach to listening - to colleagues, to artists and to clients. Listening generously, respectfully and without the (sometimes overwhelming!) urge to solve, compare or advise has been a revelation in the way I lead. The course also provided reassurance through the fantastic line-up of speakers that open up about their careers that everyone takes different paths, learns from mistakes big and small and relies on others in many ways to lead those building the future of the Arts. I couldn’t recommend the course more highly.
